The service

Paralelo shows public-domain and openly licensed texts beside a machine translation, aligned phrase by phrase, to help you learn a language by reading.

Translations are machine-made

Every translation and every alignment on this site is produced by a model. They are good enough to read alongside an original and learn from; they are not authoritative, and they should not be relied on for anything that matters legally, medically or commercially.

Rights in the texts

Source texts are public domain or openly licensed. Availability can differ by country, because copyright terms do, and a text may therefore be readable in one territory and not another.

Texts you import

With Plus you can import a text of your own (a file or a paste) to have it translated and aligned. By importing it you confirm that you have the right to do so: the text is in the public domain, you wrote it, or you hold a licence that covers translating it. An imported text is private. It is never published, never listed in the library and never shown to search engines, and only you and the people you choose to share it with can read it. Share it only with people your rights cover: a licence for personal use is not a licence to distribute. You are responsible for what you import. Each import uses credits, one per 30,000 words. Credits are returned if the translation fails on our side, and are not returned when a text is removed after a rights complaint.

Rights complaints

If you hold the rights to a text that someone has imported and you object, write to hello@paralelo.app naming the text and the right you hold. We remove a text on a valid complaint, for its owner and for everyone it was shared with, and tell its owner why.

Payments

Paid plans are sold through Stripe, which acts as the merchant of record: the seller is Stripe Technology Europe, Limited. That means your contract for the purchase is with Stripe, they handle payment and any sales tax or VAT, and the purchase is completed through Link — so your statement shows LINK.COM* followed by Paralelo, and your receipt and invoice come from Link. Paralelo never sees or stores your card details.

Cancelling and refunds

You can cancel a subscription at any time from your account; it stays active until the end of the period you have already paid for, and is not renewed. If you are a consumer in the EU or the UK you normally have 14 days to withdraw from a purchase of digital content. Because a subscription gives you the paid features immediately, you are asked to agree at checkout that access begins at once, which ends that withdrawal right as soon as you start using it. Beyond that, write to hello@paralelo.app: if something did not work as described, you will be refunded.

Acceptable use

Read as much as you like. Do not scrape the site in bulk, resell the translations, or attempt to circumvent the limits attached to your plan.
